  •   This afternoon was the much-anticipated Russian get-together up at Rivercrest, courtesy of Dad.  Dmitry invited several of his friends to come up for swimming and lunch:

Above is Olga chatting with Dan and Joe, with Dmitry mostly blocked by her; that's her little brother, Viktor, in the forefront.  First the kids hit the pool; here are Dmitry and Elveera going off the boards:

Below is Joe demonstrating the grace and elegance that characterizes his every move:

To be fair, he did some boffo moves but I didn't catch them, unfortunately.  Speaking of boffo moves, away went Viktor...

Olga and Aly didn't go off the boards, but stood and admired those who did.

And here she is with Aly, whom she hasn't seen for awhile:

One thing I definitely noticed with interest was how they mostly spoke English, even amongst themselves.  When Russian was spoken it was usually Dmitry who started it, but after a few minutes they'd lapse back into English.  Amazing!

And if you can bear one more photo, here's one taken last Sunday evening by Gina, and shamelessly snagged off her Kodak album:

  • What beautiful kids!  I think that is interesting about the preferred spoken language.
The pool is a good idea in this weather!  Love to you!

  • I'm so glad they got to have a pool party! Looks like a success. Dmitry has some great-looking friends. Summer fun at its best!

  • Yes, it's interesting that they chose to speak English.  You'd think they'd revel in the chance to speak their native tongue.  But the young are so adaptable.  I once knew a man from Sweden (who came here as an adult) who, over the years of speaking English, forgot how to speak Swedish.  When he visited Sweden in his later years, he couldn't converse in Swedish with his family.

And yes again, that's a lovely picture of your family.

  • Looks like y'all had a blast at the pool! That's one way to beat the heat. The last pic...first thing I thought of for some reason was..."The Kid's Table...30 Years Later!" Stay outa the heat!! Hugs, Tim
