Who's got a nice Mom? I've got a nice Mom!
Look what she designed and had made for me:
I've always loved that verse. It doesn't come across well in the photo but that's cut-work lace at the bottom (think that's the correct term). Once I get my sofa table this will go on it (at the moment it's hung on the wall) with one of my favorite photos of Don that's in an ivy-bordered frame.
Thanks, Mom!
Speaking of plants, this morning my sis-in-law, Mary, and I were at a Woman's Club Garden department talk about herbs, and I'm all fired up to take my planters that have had barren fake stems in 'em for years and grow herbs in them instead. You know two I want for sure? Cinnamon basil (which I learned about on Iron Chef Challenge when it was Battle Basil) and Pineapple Sage.
Does anyone here grow their own herbs?

I used to - it's a wonderful thing. But I made the beginner's mistake of starting with mint. If you've never grown mint, don't, unless it's in a container. (Which of course, you're doing...)
We put it in our garden, and it wasn't long before the only thing in our garden was mint, and we didn't have spearmint or peppermint we had spearpermint.
Dangerous stuff, mint. Took years of burning on that spot to get rid of it.
And by that time I was not in any condition to garden. We've tried a few times to grow them in pots but we're terrible about potted plants. We always over- or under-water them.
But I wish you all the best - having fresh herbs at your fingertips is a wonderful thing!

PS Your mother is wonderful, and that piece is lovely.
very pretty piece!
I grow basil although I have a thumb that is beyond black and actually covered with skulls and crossbones. Also lavender. But the basil is for pesto sauce - my family loves it and the quantities we go through are not in our budget. Lovely stuff, basil.
What a lovely gift! Mom - you did Good!
Yes, that embroidery is really, really lovely, Mrs. Gambill!
I grow basil(never heard of cinnamon basil, though), rosemary, sage and parsley, all in the ground. You're going to love having freash herbs, Anne! Especially basil - it perfumes the air all around it, mmmmm!
My very green thumbed eleven year old Megan is growing chives, oregano, rosemary. I am looking forward to having these in my cooking. Very sweet of your mom to make your picture for you.
