  • Yesterday Elaine took the girls on their first field trip.

They rode the TRE (a train connecting Fort Worth and Dallas) to a drug store in Irving, which has the distinction of possessing an old-fashioned soda fountain.  As Mom and I noted over at Elaine's blog, when we went on field trips for school they never allowed for this type of refreshment:

I'd grin like a loon, too, had I such a hot fudge sundae in front of me!

Y'know, Dmitry has never been to a drug store with a soda fountain, and I'm thinking it'd be remiss of me, as his mother, to deprive him of such a slice of disappearing Americana.

They also went to look at a log cabin-type abode, which was closed, unfortunately. Still, the kids could poke around the outside and pose for photos on the porch:

That's darling Margaret in front.  Now there's a child who understands the principle of a photo op.

  • Ohhh do you have the name of this place? That would be a fun place to go!

  • Big State Drugs. Elaine sent me the instructions: "...take the TRE from the T&P to the South Irving station. When you get off the platform, look to the far left and you'll see the sign."

    It'd be a fun outing, wouldn't it?

  • I love the way Margaret's posed in that 2nd photo - her toes are pointed just SO! Too cute.

And that place sounds fascinating. I don't think Haz and Clara found that one - doesn't sound familiar. But they did get to Wall Drug!

  • I've never been to an old fashioned soda fountain either.  I think I might try it out while I'm at my mom's in Irving.  Any idea where it is?

  • Actually, I live in Fort Worth.

Ho ho ho. Methinks that's Beth cleverly disguised as Alex.

No, I don't have an address - I'm gonna take the train - but I daresay Google would bring it up.

  • Anne, that cracked me up, about Margaret understanding a photo-op when she sees one. Just wait till you see all these Disney Photos! Big State Drugs is in the South Irving Heritage District. You can do a search on that and it will pull stuff up. You can also pull up a map from TRE.

  • That photo is simply priceless!  Of course the center of the focus is Margaret, whose point is just about perfect (get that child to ballet school!), but the rest of the photo is great as well.  It's worth blowing up and hanging on a wall, I tell ya!
