  • What a frightful fire on Catalina Island.

    Catalina burns

Fierce wildfires anywhere are scary, heaven knows, but I'd think they're ten times scarier if it's on an island.  Especially if you can't swim.  According to the news, the authorities are evacuating the island with help from the Navy and the Marines.

Where's a drenching downpour when you need one?

I'll bet Dan can see the smoke from the Marine base.

  • Doesn't it always seem that these extremes of weather - fires in the west and southest and tornadoes and gully washers in the midwest and southwest, and here as well - we had our own gullywasher yesterday, complete with golfball-sized hail - doesnt it seem as though they all happen at the same time? It's not just a big fire somewhere, or a bad windstorm somewhere - it's pandemonium.

It is truly horrible to see these photos of the fires, and think about just what it means to historical places not to mention personal property and human lives!

No, I wouldn't want to be on Catalina now for no amount of money.

  • That is awful, and as far as being able to swim...I bet the waters are full of sharks!
