  • With some birthday moolah (thanks, Mom and Dad!) I treated myself to a Nintendo DS Lite:

    DS lite

I love it.  A year ago I bought a Sony PSP, which I know is in many ways a niftier system with much greater capabilities, but the truth is I never took to it terribly well, while the Nintendo DS and I are a great fit.  The Lite is smaller than the original DS, which Dmitry has.

For my birthday Dmitry gave me the New Super Mario Brothers game, which was released in May, and it's both amusing and highly frustrating.  Yesterday I finally made it to World 2!  Taylor tried it a week or so ago and easily made his way through the first world, and he doesn't even own a DS, the turkey.

How is it kids can play these games nearly intuitively?  Brianna understands them better than I do, for crying out loud!  On one of the minigames included she handily whupped up on me.

Along with the NSMB game I've got Brain Age and Big Brain Academy, both of which are supposed to help keep me mentally alert.  If nothing else, I enjoy playing them, and it is fun to see my improvement in some of the games.  Also have a game with Yahtzee, Monopoly, Battleship and Boggle on it.  This was my first experience with Boggle and it's addictive!  Great game.

As y'all can probably figure out, all has been quiet around here recently.  Week after next Brianna and Bethie will be with us as they attend the Christ Chapel MusiCamp, so things should perk up then, and tomorrow is Brianna's birthday party at a roller skating rink.  Yesterday she turned six years old!  I can't believe how fast the grandchildren are growing.  Next month she and Bethie will enter first grade.

Next thing we know they'll be graduating from high school.  Where the heck does the time GO?

  • That DS Lite is a sweet piece of hardware. I've got the older DS, and my brother's Lite makes me jealous.

My brother plays way too many games. He bought the New SMB game this past weekend and finished it the same day. Sick.
