  • Just got off the phone with Alex.

My, my, my.  One never knows what the LORD has planned for a day, does one?  And it's not even lunch time!

He's being posted to Japan.  e-thud

He, Beth and Hannah leave in August for a two year tour of duty over there.  Alex will occasionally be gone on ships for up to three months at a time, visiting the Pacific Rim countries such as Russia, Australia, and I don't recall where all (Alex, where else did you say?  Mama's blanking here).

Well, he'd grumbled a trifle (just a trifle!) about "Join the Navy and see Memphis, Tennessee."

He and Beth are going to actually SEE THE WORLD!  e-banana

Not to mention give Don and me an unexceptional reason for visiting Japan.   Darn the luck.  e-batting

Hmmmm.....we'll need to make sure they have a means to send video of precious Hannah via the internet while they're overseas.  Anyone skilled in that who can give us pointers?

  • If you buy them a decent webcam, they can make videos for y'all and post 'em to Youtube or something.

My wife visited Japan, back in High School. She'd love to go back, and I'd love to take her there, but that's a few years down the road, I fear.

  • There ya go! Good thought, Kurt...thanks.

  • Wow, Japan! If you're gonna visit, save up! It's an expensive trip. And this was 7 or 8 years ago.

My nephew (non-military) lived there for 3 years and Clara and Dan went to visit - BIG bucks. But they loved it, and of course, when there's a grandchild at the end of that trip, it's hard to imagine that it'd be considered "too much." Where in Japan?

Very exciting, though. I hope Alex gets to see lots of cool stuff in port.

    And you too, of course.

  • I think that the band goes to Korea, Thailand, China, and others.  Everyone has been supportive so far.  I hope it keeps up, 'cause support will certainly be helpful.  "Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort..." -2 Corinthians 1:3.  Jesus has us throughout, so we're good to go.  He's always with us, in Japan.  Amen  -Alex

  • He's always with us, even in Japan...is what I meant to write.

  • Wow! This spring they're going (well, went) to Singapore, Malaysia, and Korea!

You'll certainly be getting some neat stamps on your passport, Alexander.

  • Chris goes to Japan on occaision (he just returned from there Friday afternoon). He used to go every 5 weeks, now it's only once or twice a year. It's a very expensive trip (and an expensive place). Do you know where in Japan?

  • Yokosuka, on a bay to the east of Kyoto and Osaka. Does Chris know it at all?

  • I'll ask him tonight. He's been to Tokyo and then to the north to Aster (I don't know if that's the name of the town, or the company he goes to visit). I think he's been to Kyoto. I'm sure that he could recommend some neat places to visit there.

  • Chris has only seen the airport in Osaka, but a coworker's wife is from Osaka. I could email you Chris's email if you have any questions you'd like for him to ask Coen about Japan if you'd like.

  • You're too kind, Cheri, but I daresay the Navy has a packet of information for those being posted to Japan, and in fact, Alex knows someone in that band (isn't that right, Alexander? Trumpet player, IIRC?) who went there straight from the Navy's music school.

  • The packet the Navy has put together may be more understandable than Coen's wife I think that they will have a neat experience there.
