Well, darn. It was rather disappointing to watch the American
woman's downhill skier today, Julia Mancuso, and find she had ditched
the tiara she'd sported during yesterday's slalom event in favor of a
helmet.Safer, but pedestrian. Don't know if the American lassie who
chose to make a fashion statement during yesterday's race by wearing
pearls (faux, I'm sure) continued with them today.Tiaras and pearls on the slalom! Whatever next?

No tiara? The commentators sure seemed to think that wearing pearls and tiaras took away from the seriousness of the sport. I hate to say I agreed with them. You liked it?
I was trying to be facetious, but apparently it wasn't a resounding success.
The trouble with the presence of Mancuso's tiara was the corresponding lack of Mancuso's helmet. Couldn't enjoy watching her due to anxiety over her perilous condition.
The pearls were kinda cute, IMO.
Skiing as a "serious" sport?
Didn't know there was such a thing as a "serious" sport. Sports are considered to be part of the entertainment/recreation industry, after all.
And there you have it, Mrs. Ivy. Sprots are GAMES! The Olympic GAMES! These people change their lives - living at national olympic training centers full time, etc., for GAMES! Why do we have a national olympic training center, anyway? What wacky-weed-smokers decided we needed to go on that direction?
I live with a "serious athlete" and let me tell you, when he's serious about his sport, it's no fun for anyone. Hurray for Julie Mancuso et al, for remembering that these are, ultimately, vehicles for FUN!
End of rant.
