  • [glumly]  Well, the plumber came.

Broken line under the house.  Could take a cruise for what it'll cost to mend it.

    Bummer.

  • Oh, man, that IS a bummer. So how does that work-- is it encased in concrete?  Is it in a crawl space? We have insurance from the water company on our water line from the street to the house, but it comes into the basement.  What will your fix involve?

  • I'm waiting for another plumbing company to come, investigate, and give us their opinion. So we'll see.

It's under the house, I suppose, about 13' in from the outside. Roughly.

  • It could be worse!

Could be better, mind, but still...it could be worse.

According to Roto-Rooter (and why I didn't call them first I can't think...just didn't, though), yes, there IS a break (boo hoo!), but they'll fix it for around a third less than the other guys, plus he was able to clear the drain so it's usable now. Suggested if I want to stall fixing the break, just don't use the garbage disposal.

Of course, I had to pay Roto-Rooter, too. Hate it when I waste a chunk of change like that.

  • My inspector just told me to NEVER use Roto-Rooter. FWIW.

BTW, please don't let your bush eat Dallas. Your sister and family will be living there soon. Surely that must bring Dallas up at least half a notch in your mind, right?

  • You wanted to take a cruise?

I thought you had something else in mind?

And Elaine, I have a hunch your sister will ALWAYS grumble about Dallas, even while she'll be thrilled to have you so much nearer. :)

  • Cindy, I always want to take a cruise. That's a constant, like wanting chocolate. Do you have those dates firmed up yet, BTW?

Elaine, we've used Roto-Rooter occasionally over the years with no trouble. Don knows the owner of the one down here...sold 'em a phone system years and years ago, in fact. Sounds as if it makes a difference who is running the local shop.

  • Looked at the estimate given me by the first company...the one that didn't get the clog cleared out.

    I was given a 10% SENIOR DISCOUNT. =:^o

    WAH!!!!

  • Oh goodness. what a pain :(   we haven't had anything major as homeowners yet, i'm almost scared to think about all the things that could happen.

  • Fair's fair...we've been in here nearly 26 years. Once in a while stuff has to be fixed, y'know? Doesn't stop it being a Really Dull Way To Spend Money, however.

  • Just you wait till Kirstin gets  a senior discount!!! Enjoy the  discounts, never look a gift horse in the mouth!! from your thrifty mom!

  • Try spending five figures on basement walls, argh.  On second thought, take a cruise instead.

  • Anne, check your ez-inbox, please.

  • Sorry to hear about your plumbing problems, makes my mother having my sister replace toilets at my grandmothers house (how do you like that chain of command...and my sister, btw, is a teacher, not a plumber. But she has changed out all of the toilets and faucets at her house because her husband is NOT handy) look like childs play (and much cheaper too)! Hope you can find something less expensive than a cruise!!
