  • Allow me to brag on my daughter, Jessica, for a moment. ;^)

She's been made lead manager at the Chili's at which she works.

This is A Big Deal, indeed.

It's really something when one considers she is insisting upon remaining on "part-time" status.  Mind, in the restaurant business that's 40 hours for a manager...."full time" is 50-60 hours, and she doesn't want to spend that much time away from the girls (not to mention it'd be a financial fiasco, what with paying for child care for those additional hours).  She was told she could possibly make GM (a general manager) in six months, but that position requires upwards of 80 hours a week, and Jessica frankly told them that wasn't going to happen...not that soon, at least.

Anyway, kudos to Jessica Marie for a job obviously well done!  I'm so proud!

On a totally different topic, I found Wii Fit at Wal-Mart yesterday.  Mercy Maud, that's a work-out, if one chooses to make it so.  You know what's spooky?  I took a balance test on the balance board that comes with it and the program asked - rhetorically - if I trip a lot.

Stupid program.  Okay, fine, yes I trip frequently.  How'd IT know?

I was trying out some of the games to increase one's balance, a skiing game plus a table tilt game, and was convinced they're impossible when Jonathan Andrew came over and proceeded to make my Mii look good by getting the hang of them right off the bat.

The Wii Fit is definitely entertaining and provides a good workout!  I'm enjoying it.

Shifting yet again, Dmitry's over at Dan and Zhenya's for the night, and he sent me a couple of photos and a video of them pursuing the noble art of the backyard cookout:

    Horsing around, the goons:

  • Hooray for Jessica!!  I know she will do amazingly well.  The Wii fit sounds fun.  We're still just sticking to our Mariokart game.  And...mmmm, backyard cookouts.  Believe me.  If the Lord gives Beth and me a house, we will be having backyard cookouts for all to enjoy aplenty.  I love barbeques.

Tonight, I'm in Sasebo, where I excitedly indulged in some authentic Japanese rahmen and gyoza.  That stuff is faaaaaantastic!  Here's something annoying, but good at the same time.  Our perception of being stationed out here has changed as far as food is concerned.  We have discovered that the different kinds of food we've stayed away from are actually awesome.  For the last 2 1/2 years, we've thought about how much we miss American food.  But now we're thinking about how little time we have left to enjoy the things about Japan.  Actually, the more I just stop and look around, the more I realize that I really do like living out here.  The only problem is that it is within the context of being in the Navy.  There's a huge microscope just looking down at us all the time because we're US Navy.  Japan is great.  The people are always so nice and courteous.  It's safe wherever you go.  The food is fantastic.  Albeit, there are many things that I will not miss.  I will thouroughly enjoy being able to drive somewhere and just park.  But we won't think about those things now.  I am very glad that we'll be able to leave with so many positive thoughts about being out here, but being able to look forward to whatever God has for us back home.  Anyway, there's my rant.  Love you, Mama!

  • Kudos to Jessica!

Wii Fit sounds great -- everything I've heard about it makes it the only game system I've ever wished I owned.

  • Yea Jessica!  What a success-story!  I'm glad she is holding herself to 40 hours - that is really awesome!

Looks like Dmitry had a good time - great picture of him taking off Zhenya's head.  I like action shots!

Wii Fit sounds like it makes exercising more fun - I'd like to see it in action.  Call me when we can do lunch....

  • Congrats to Jessica. And OH My kiddos want a Wii Fit, well my oldest does. I told him "someday" i'm thinking we'll try for Christmas this year.
