Some cool photos snagged from ABC...
Regular readers of my blog have probably twigged to the facts that, one, I love fireworks displays and two, I love photos of fireworks. Not being anything approaching a skilled photobug myself (thank heavens for autofocus!), I'm always amazed at the fabulous pictures that real, honest-to-goodness photographers can manage. Here are a few I shamelessly filched right off the ABC website:
Seth A. McConnell, Rapid City Journal/AP PhotoIsn't the above terrific? Fireworks over Mount Rushmore! Never saw that before.
Karen Bleier, AFP/Getty ImagesThe above was of the fireworks shot off from the National Mall in Washington, D.C. Someday I would dearly love to see those in person, along with the fireworks over New York City. So many fireworks, so little time!
Oh, and here's one from right down the road at the Ballpark in Arlington, following the game between the Texas Rangers and the Los Angeles Angels (the Rangers won, BTW):
There are many, many more wonderful photos at ABC.com, so be sure to check 'em out.

Love that last one. I've been there for the 4th!
Fireworks at Stone Mountain, GA are spectacular, as are fireworks over Niagara Falls.
The summer I was 13 I spent with my sister Kim and her family at Fort Bliss (El Paso) when her husband was stationed there. The Golden Knights and Blue Angels did a combined performance in the afternoon on the 4th, followed by a spectacular fireworks display. I'll always remember that one.
Williamsport gives a good show these days, I'm told, combined with a display of the world's largest flying US flag and music and all sorts of cool stuff. They started it, however, after I started to forgo such events in favor of feeling good.
None of that was a patch on going to a Gettysburg re-enactment on the 4th, about 8 or 9 years ago. Probably the last year I could have done it. It was fantastic and horrifying and humbling. No fireworks needed.

LOS ANGELES ANGELS?????? Okay, I obviously haven't been following things, and when I saw you post that, I Googled to see if I'd missed something.
Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim? How STUPID is that??? Why did they change the name of the team to a different city if they didn't even MOVE to a different city?
What the heck was wrong with "California Angels" anyway? I know, I know, they changed it to Anaheim years ago, but still....

Nice fireworks photos, BTW.
That's what it said as the blurb for the photo: "Fireworks light up the night sky after a baseball game between the Los Angeles Angels and the Texas Rangers Wednesday, July 4, 2007, in Arlington, Texas. Texas won 4-2."
That's how the Dallas Morning News is referring to them, as well.
The Mt. Rushmore ones were designed and put on by Zambelli International, of New Castle, PA - which is probably equidistant from pentamom and me. All the best displays in this area are Zambelli's, and if you're watching a good show, chances are it's Zambelli. They really know how to put one on.
Two memorable displays: 1) Boston, Fourth of July, from the Esplanade during and following the Pops concert. 2) Pittsburgh, watching from Mt. Washington, as Zambelli's put on a display for a convention of convention planners. (They really do have such things.)
What awesome photos. Every year I take tons of pictures hoping to get just 1 good one. This year, no such luck. Every time I pulled out my camera and faced it upward, the rain started puring down on us. And, it was pretty foggy. And we had seats directly under the fireworks, which made it tough to see and get the right shots.
