Emeril's going to the dogs?
Hot dogs, that is to say.
Yes, this evening he's concentrating upon hot dogs, and right this minute he's making what was standard fare in our house when I was growing up, i.e. hot dogs stuffed with cheese and wrapped with bacon.
This is new? You'd think so, based upon the groans of appreciation from the audience.
To be fair, he is putting a different twist on his bacon-cheese-dogs, which is cooking them on a griddle, then putting them on a hot dog bun that was grilled on the griddle in the bacon grease.
Hideously bad for you, of course, but yuuuuuummmmm! They look delicious.
Still, it's the first time I've ever watched Emeril and recognized the dish as one I've eaten times out of mind, pretty much as he made it. Pretty much. I broil them in the oven, but am planning upon trying the griddle idea.
Emeril and the lowly frank....who'd have thunkit?

We have them rarely, but nowadays because of fat, I use light beef franks, low fat cheese or fat free and bacon bits tucked in with the cheese placed in the length wise slit in the frank. They aren't as good as we used to have, but are better than none. Same
goes for Hormel's fat free turkey chili. Not as good as the real thing but better than none!!! Actually it's really pretty good.
Do youall still eat the hamburger dill pickle rolls?? On buns with butter (margerine) and lettuce?? I use bacon bits on those too.
Serve with a stick of butter and a cardiology consult!! I get a hankerin' for hot dogs every blue moon or so, but they have to be cooked on the grill and they have to be juuuuuust this side of burned/blackened/Cajuned. Add some sweet relish, ketchup and a wee bit o' mustard then stand back!!!
Is it not gorgeous out there today?!! We're off to Lowes or the Depot to get stuff for re-doing our balcony hummingbird garden. I'll snap some pics and send em your way.
Hugs...Tim
Haven't thought of the hamburger-dill-pickle-roll in ages.
Need to have those!
Those are exactly the way I like my dawgs grilled, Tim.
Looking forward to the pix of your newly improved hummingbird garden. How does one make one, anyway? You might post that on your blog.
"The lowly frank"??? Hey wait a minute.........
Unless the Frank's made of Moose, naturally.
Then it's gourmet fare.
The Dogs episode came on today on our Armed Forces Network cable here in Japan. As yummy as they looked, especially the pigs in a blanket, I just think it is funny how excited everyone gets n the audience when Emeril cooks hotdogs. I love hotdogs, but they are usually the meal to make when i don't feel like cooking. It's not all that exciting Yummy, but not exciting.
That's why he gets the big bucks, dear.
If you can make an audience moan and groan in ecstasy over hot dogs, you're a natural for a cooking show.
