Kirstin sent me an email with photos showing why it's surely good to be a pet; here are my particular favorites (numbered for ease of reference in case y'all are inspired to suggest a caption):
No. 1 must be a strange looking dog when on all fours. Nos. 4 and 6 couldn't quite make it to bed before being overcome by a nap.

Lois! Number 1 is just a Great Dane -- a stately dog if ever there was one. This one's ears appear not to be cropped, giving him that floppy hound look, but I'll bet you're wrong. I'll bet he's as commanding as any! (Great Dane's are very social animals, much preferring couches and chairs and people to dog houses and outside time. Their size doesn't help in that regard, but it's true nonetheless.)
