Yesterday Dan and Joe came to fetch Dmitry to spend the night with them, and while here Dan took me completely aback when he announced he'd signed on with the U.S. Marines that morning.

And was wearing a Marine T-shirt to prove it.
Can you imagine? It seems as if he just GOT here, though thinking about it it's been almost four years since he arrived from the children's home in Shumerly, Russia.
He's currently scheduled to leave for basic training next month, but he's going to see if he can get that pushed back a trifle, so he can finish this semester of college at TCC.
Hard to believe that just three years ago he and Dmitry were going swimming at the YMCA and feeding the squirrels in Trinity Park. Now Dan's heading to the Marine Corps.

Oh Anne, is there something in the water, in Texas, that makes your children into soldiers? Well, let him know we will pray for him.
I'd be very surprised if they don't have a very special corner for Dan....I will pray for him.
Hello, from Anne's son, Alex. Forgive me, what do you mean by a "very special corner for Dan?"
Hello Alex. I refuse to post under that - thing - on your blog. Just wanted you to know that even though there's no crisis in your life that you've got us praying for, there are those of us out here who still pray for you and your sweet girls.

Alex, that was me posting because my daughter always forgets to sign out. I mean, I have a feeling they might just have a special use or two for a young man fluent in Russian. That and his natural diligence makes him very useful and build-upon-able, or so I'd guess as the sister of two Army types, one of whom was in intel.
Congratulations to Dan. That is awesome. I am proud to have him serving our country.
Oh, and there actually are no soldiers, just Sailors and now a Marine
I stand corrected.
