  • A Hannah tale...

Beth was telling me when they were here about Hannah's tendency to confuse trains and buses.  Over in Japan the shape of the trains bears a resemblance to the shape of the buses, you see.  Anyway, when Beth points to a bus, Hannah makes the sign signifying it and says "Bus!"  When Beth points to a train, Hannah makes the appropriate sign for it but then says "Bus!"

Beth says she's tried and tried to get Hannah to distinguish verbally between them, but to no avail.  Hannah is nothing if not persistent.

Not long ago Beth brought a train to Hannah's attention, urging her to call it what it is.

"Look, Hannah!  It's a TRAIN!  Can you say train?"

    After a pause, Hannah replied:

    "Yeah, but it's a bus."

    e-rofl

  • That's too funny.

Reminds me of Hazel's grandson Erik, when he was of the "Where's your eyes," age. I asked him, "Erik, can you show me your nose?"

    He nodded.

I didn't ask him to SHOW me. I just asked if he could! Smart alecky toddlers anyway.

  • Hehehehe!

I remember Don's aunt, Norma Ruth, telling us decades ago of going through a picture book with one of her grandson when he was a toddler.

    "There's a cat...can you say CAT?"

    "Cat!" he replied.

    "Dog...can you say DOG?"

    "Dog!" he obliged.

"Cow. See the cow? Can you say COW?"

    "Cow!" came the confidant response.

"Oh, here's the hippopotamus. Can you say HIPPOPOTAMUS?"

    Pause. "Um hmmm."

  • I like that kid!!! She knows what it is and it's going to be a cold day in July when she understands the reality. Don't push it. Reality isn't all that wonderful.

  • Three cheers for Hannah!  She really sticks to her guns.  What a munchkin!
