  • I'm working on getting Christmas cards in the mail.

Did I get stamps the last couple of times I was at the post office?

Nooooooo. Not me.  Heavens.  That'd be way too easy.

No, I assumed I had sufficient stamps for the number of cards I'm mailing, but I was wrong.  Oh, so wrong.  Wronger'n wrong.  So twice today I went to the Arlington Heights' branch of the post office, only to be met both times with a line out the door, mostly consisting of grim-faced people with their arms full of packages to be mailed.  Tried to buy stamps from the machine but it's a pickypants and will apparently only accept pristine, newly-printed bills, having no truck with the sorry affairs I tried to feed it.

Maybe if I hit the post office early in the morning?

And To Those Whom It Might Concern, be prepared....I used both printed return address labels AND ugly, white mailing labels, so yeah, when a card shows up  it's gonna look mass-mailed, but it wasn't.  Anyway, each and every card is HAND SIGNED by me.  So there.  That ought to count for something, surely.

  • I've done printed labels for years. In fact, our Christmas Card list is an outgrowth of the Wedding invitation list from which I printed the envelopes for our invitations.

There is no shame in doing so.

  • Thanks ever so, Dawn!

    What a pal.

  • Thanks so much for the presents, Mama.  They were great and so much fun to open....just kidding.

  • Very funny, Alexander! =8^o

  • What worries me is when an old friend whom we haven't seen in years and haven't heard from since last Christmas sends the card to the correct address.

He's the type to make use of the Internet to update addresses, but still -- only five months and "they've found us" already!

  • Just saw an item the other day about the best time to go to the post office in December:   after 10 a.m. or around 2:30 p.m.  Never on a Monday.

Or - stock up on stamps in September : )

  • Or another alternative is to go to the post office station on the second floor of Stripling and Cox Department Store, which had one woman in front of me.

  • Many grocery store service desks sell postage at face value with no add-on.  I know Publix and Kroger's do.  Food City does too, but since it's only in TN, KY, and VA, you probably don't care, )even though they do sponsor the NASCAR race in Bristol).

  • I just got your card and it is wonderful!  Thanks!

  • I forgot about that, as a matter of fact. Good point, Brad!

Not sure if SuperTarget sells them, however, which is the store what gets most of my grocery dollars.

  • I'm shocked, really, that you (Anne) haven't gone the on-line route for your stamps. (After all, I look to you to try out new on-line gizmos, gadgets, and geegaws.) Mommy Moose has been ordering stamps on line for years. Check out usps.com - you can order your stamps, and they'll be delivered to you, in your mail (no, not FedEx!) in a few days. Of course, since you waited so long to get them, maybe that's not your best choice right now.

  • By golly, I never thought about that! Good call, Moosie.
