  •  The photographer did a great job!

We were out of there by 4:15 p.m., which is amazing, considering the size of the group photo he had to deal with at first, plus all the additional photos taken.

The photos were taken in a corner room at Rivercrest, during a raging thunderstorm.  Wouldn't you know it?  Hasn't rained here in several weeks!

Above is "little" Kirsten with Jessica, and then with her father, Jason.  Isn't she gorgeous

Above is Elaine getting to see Hannah for the first time since they've been home.  There are Jordan and Louis in the far back left, and Benjamin, Meredith and Margaret on the sofa to the right.

Unfortunately a great shot of Jonathan and Dmitry was spoiled by that darn light.   After the photo shoot we all went to Elaine's for a combination August birthday/farewell to the sailors party:

And yeah, the date's STILL wrong!  I keep forgetting to fix it.  Sorry about that.  Anyway, the above shot is while we're all singing "Happy Birthday" to Dad.  For the birthday cake there was a family favorite, Black Forest Cake from the Swiss Bakery Shop.  Unlike what you're probably thinking, it's not the one with cherries in it, but instead one made with meringue and whipped cream and chocolate.  Hannah decided it was quite tasty:

This photo of Alex and Charles with Mom and Dad just slays me!  Look at the difference between Alex and Mom on the left and Charles and Dad on the right:

Alex lowered the emotional temperature by having a Funny Face Fest with Bethany and Benjamin:

Elaine and Beth were discussing baby signs in the former's kitchen and I tried to get a good shot of them making like chickens at each other, but no joy. Dang.  It'd have been a terrific photo.

It was a great party, and God willing in a few years we're all be together again.  Alex and Beth's flight to Sea-Tac leaves a few minutes before 3 p.m. tomorrow, and Charles leaves about 11 a.m. on Thursday to return to Groton.

Golly, it's going to be quiet around here.

But what a wonderful gift the LORD provided, in permitting us all to be together today!

  • I'd be interested in knowing many of your children and grandchildren were there as compared to the total number.  For instance, X children out of XX, XX grandchildren out of XXX.   Who from the older generation besides your parents?  I love family pictures.

  • Hmmmm, let's see. Mom and Dad have four children, of whom I'm the eldest. They have ten grandchildren, of whom six are mine, and seven great-grandchildren, of whom six are also mine.

Including the little ones there were 31 people in the photograph, of whom 17 were Ivys, either by birth, marriage or adoption.

Ivys are taking over the world.

  • I'll answer that.

There were 31 people there total. Anne's family, including herself and her family (kids and grandkids) accounted for 17 of that total. 14 people, which includes my parents, totaled the rest. Really, you shouldn't count my parents in that, making it 17 vs. 12. However, I'm not smart enough to do the percentages, but I know that Anne's half is more than half. The other three siblings (me, Louis, and Jeanne) don't contribute near as much!

Thanks for arranging this Anne. It was a lot of fun!

  • We did that at the same time!

  • Jinx!

And you're quite welcome. It was too good an opportunity to let go by, y'know? And having the picture taken on Dad's birthday....? Perfect! ;^)

It was a delightful party, BTW; it was dear of you to invite the whole kit and kaboodle over.

An all-present family event is serious business indeed.

  • Wow!  I'm so impressed by the sheer volume of people someone fit into a single photograph!  Sounds like you guys had a blast and I'm sure the photos will be cherished for generations!

  • Being a literalist, I will answer the original question. How many of family were there? All!!! Every one!!! All kids, all grandkids, and all greatgrandkids. A true wonder and miracle!!! I was so certain some grandkid would get sick but they all were well and behaved!! Bryson, the 2 year old who is in his Grandmom's lap during the BIIIIGGGG picture is a bit slumped I thing but all looked pleasant which is all required!!! A blessing indeed! from she who started it all !! I just had a brother and Lawton was an only child! exponentially done! And again Thanks Anne and Elaine for the great day!

  • How soon do we get to see the picture?  Amazing you were able to get the whole kit and kaboodle together at one time.   And just what IS a kaboodle anyway?

  • The proofs will be available in a week or so, and I'll ask the photographer for permission to post a couple of them.

And as to a "kaboodle"...I've no idea. Never thought about it before.

  • We did that once, when Isaac was a baby.  It was fun but hard work, too!
What a cherished photo that will be!  I love the one of Alex making faces with the kids.  And Dmitry is always handsome in his standard black.
    Praying for you!
