  • [grimly]  The
good....nay, excellent!....news is Charles is alright and wasn't hurt,
but the bad news is he just called, saying he was elbowed off the road
while driving back from New York City.  He was in the right hand
lane, going about 70 mph, when someone else decided he wanted in that
lane and wasn't willing to wait for it to be clear.  Charles had
to swerve to avoid hitting the other car, causing him to hit the
barriers.  His rear quarter panel (is that right?) is damaged, as
is his tire.  He's hoping he'll  be able to get the spare on
    and that the car's driveable.

Naturally the creep who ran him off the road didn't bother to stop, so this will be a hit on Charles' insurance.

Still, that's two highway/freeway accidents from which he's emerged physically unscathed, thank God.

I'm beginning to think he'll be safer on the submarine

  • Thank God he wasn't hurt!  I'll bet he's still shaking though.  These things happen so quickly, and at high speeds it's always scary.

  • Rich says he needs to file with the police as a hit-and-run.  If he doesn't, he'll be paying more.

  • Thanks for the info, Eleanor!

Is it a hit-and-run since the other car didn't actually hit him? Charles ran into the side barriers in order to avoid colliding with it.

  • Rich said, additionally, that he needed to have done that at the time-- he can't do it after the fact.  A policeman has to come out and see the scene. As for your question, I don't know, but the insurance agent would.

  • I was afraid of that. Oh well. He's been wanting a new body for his Corvette, so might just give the insurance company a miss and store the car until he returns from sea, as he'll be able to afford it then. It'd replace the damaged bits, except for the exhaust pipe. And maybe the wheel? Still, if he's planning upon paying out that money then anyway, no point taking a hit on his insurance just so it looks nice sitting in storage while he's gone.
