  • It's that Dance Recital time of year, y'know.  This year's crop was kicked off by none other than our own Meredith (Elaine's eldest, and my niece) who has been taking classes at Margo Dean's School of Ballet.  They performed a ballet version of Wizard of Oz which was, well, simply wizard

This is, BTW, the exact same Margo Dean from whom (well, not her personally, of course) yours truly took ballet when in elementary school.  What's really maddening is I swear the woman looks about MY age.

There's a camera I want, with 8+ megapixel and a 12x optical zoom, and which would have taken wonderful photos under these circumstances, but unfortunately I don't have that one.  So, don't expect much, okay?

Marebear was one of the Lullabye Girls, and she's on the far right:

    Here she's on the left:

    Still on the left:

Naturally the tradition of flowers ("What are these for?" Marebear wanted to know) continued:

    Spring06 130

Not that *I* ever got flowers when I was in recitals for Mrs. Beall's piano class. Never crossed our minds back then.  I'd demand a do-over only then someone might expect me to try to stumble my way through Tarantella yet again.

This was funny, I thought....Marebear with her GiGi in the background, snapping away:

Also in the audience was Meredith's admiring sister and friend:

It was a lovely performance, and we really enjoyed it.

  • Aren't those recitals just the best? I miss those days of seeing the kiddos up there singing their hearts out. Beats any professional show by a million miles. My niece is in that age group now and I can hardly wait for the shows!! Happy Mom's Day to you!

  • Thank you, dear sir!

It's one of the best parts of being a parent, grandparent, aunt, etc. isn't it? Getting to see the little ones performing so earnestly up on stage.

Well, that or else sitting down and refusing to perform at all, but even that has a piquant charm all its own.

You're correct about it beating the professional performances, too...AAMOF I was thinking that this afternoon, how I was vastly enjoying this ballet, but wouldn't have much interest in going to a professional ballet.

No cute kiddos dressed in witch costumes, I'm not interested.

  • My Katherine has her dance recital this coming Thursday and unfortunately Chris will be travelling for work (I do plan to get it on video for him). My fear is that Katherine will be the one that refuses to perform (not likely, she's such a ham, but she does have a habit of doing her own thing).

The Lord finished flipping the porch light on. After a lovely afternoon visiting my mom yesterday my step mother left this earth in her sleep last night. I am so glad that she was able to enjoy a lovely day and mom was able to have a nice visit.....but it's still unreal.

  • I just loved the performance! I told Hal that I'd be happy to go to that even without a daughter performing. I just enjoyed it all around. Her teacher, Miss Dana, is just a marvelous dancer. I wonder if she's a professional? She should be. Meredith was very disappointed to hear this was the end of ballet for the year and that she'd have to wait for fall to take again. So now I'm looking into the summer camp....maybe she and Brianna could do it together. Thanks so much for coming!

  • Aww! What a great expression in that 3rd pic!

I was in a dance production of the Wizard of Oz very similair to that when I was about 10. My teacher actually found music from "The Jitterbug"-- a "deleted scene" from the film. Even though I wasn't in a class that danced to it, the tune has stuck in my head for years!

I guess the secret to looking perpetually young is to be a ballet teacher. *makes note for future reference*

  • Awww she is adorable. Omg. My daughter can take dance in a few years. Can't wait ;) I love having a girl.

    Happy Mother's Day! : )

  • Just wait till you see her in a pink tutu.

    You'll puddle.

  • There's nothing sweeter than a little girl dressed up for a dance recital.
