  • This is not an observation one normally hears after an ice dance performance:  "The feathers are flying!"

However, due to the attire of the female half of the Israeli couple, it was accurate....there were feathers, and by jingo, at the end of the program they were flying around like autumn leaves.

If the figure skating manages to close without broken bones, it'll be a pleasant surprise, considering how dancers were dropping like flies:

It's not a sport for sissies, that's for sure.

OTOH, it was terrific to see the rapturous joy with which the Italian cross-country team was greeted when they received their gold medals last night.  The flag-waving crowd sang the Italian anthem, as did the medal winners, though the one on the far left was noticeably tearing up and choking out the words.

    My kinda medal winner.

And talk about all hat, no horse!  Bode Miller is going to be slinking home, medal-less, t'would appear.  He's got one more chance, isn't that right?  It's not the same as with poor Dan Jensen all those years ago.  Bless the latter's heart, he tried hard, took it seriously (instead of partying until the wee hours), and even had a relative die (his sister?) on the day of one of the races.  He finally won, though, remember?  What rejoicing there was when he did!

I'm not sure how much rejoicing there'll be if Miller amazes everyone, gets his act together, and manages to cop a gold after all.

  • I haven't heard the saying, "All hat, no horse" in years!! Thanks, I need to work that into  a conversation some how!! Love it!! And thanks for the pics of the fallen. Mom

  • Yeah, it was carnage time on the ice.  A** over tin cup as my classy and refined husband would say.  I wondered about all those feathers.  Doesn't that make it hazardous for the next skaters.  Does someone do feather patrol?   And did you see the steely stare the redhead gave her partner for the longest time after he dropped her?   Good thing looks can't kill.  Ice dancing used to be so graceful and lovely.  Now it's all a frenzied race to take advantage of the change in rules.

  • Tell you who I miss, and that's Torvill and Dean.

Now there were a pair of ice dancers par excellence!

  • Lois, I hadn't seen the "steely stare" for I'd missed that performance but hoo, boy!...I got brought up to speed tonight. Those two were on the outs and no mistake. They somehow managed to skate a terrific program and make up at the end, which was nice.

  • I missed watching the ice dancing, The Night They All Fell. I understand one of the women sustained an injury and the pair had to drop out? So sad.

And, I must say, I'm underimpressed with Bode Miller. I don't know what he's doing in his free time, but judging by how utterly wiped out he was at the bottom of the downhill last night, he maybe isn't doing much working out?

But Ted Ligady (Sp?) is cool. He's from Park City. That's in Utah. :)

  • Ted Ligety ( ) is cool indeed.

Unlike Bad News Bode, who apparently is still staying out and up late, when other skiers take upwards of an hour examining the course upon which they'll be competing, he lavishes a whole eleven minutes on it, etc.

Yo, Bode! Never mind the rest of the season, when it comes to the Olympics it might pay to keep in mind the old adage, "Do what you've always done and you'll get what you've always had."

Which is not a single medal thus far.

Whaddaya wanna bet he doesn't listen to me?

    Foolish, foolish man.
