  • The 2007 Chevy Suburban?

It's just eleven days into February 2006, forpetessake!  What happened to new models not showing up until September?

  • I don't know about all those other cars, but when we picked up our Mini, all I saw were (thank goodness!) 2006 models. Perhaps by 2008 you'll be able to buy a nice new 2010 model...

  • No Cheri, the rule is you can introduce a model no higher than the next year than it actually is, so on January 1, 2007, a company could introduce a 2008 model.

So yes, it makes sense that if Chevy is "changing the Suburban" in more ways than just adding a piece of chrome to the door or putting the amber light on the bottom instead of the top of the taillight, then they may want to call it "new" and give it next year's nomenclature.

Anne, you are so right.  September used to be a time of unveiling.  People used to go to car dealerships just to look at the new models.  It was a party atmosphere with cake and punch.  It was fun for teenaged boys to see a train go by or a transport truck and see if you could identify the new models, and that's if they weren't covered up or masked in some way.  Now, with time to market cut so dramatically from what it used to be, they can't wait for a year to pass before bringing out the latest and greatest thing.  I guess it has its advantages that way, but the annual new car show where the stuff really was a surprise, well, that's another thing that has slipped away that our kids will never know.

  • Isn't that the truth! I remember the fun of getting the Life and Look issues featuring the new models, and going with Dad down to the dealerships to see them.

Don says he recalls how the newbies would be on the dealership floor but covered with tarp, and oh, the anxiety of waiting till the Official Unveiling Day!

It's sad how today's youngsters have missed all that.

  • It is silly. I'll tell you what, though, that Suburban commercial does make me want one of those for my crew of prairie dogs.

Now if only I could get someone to buy me one, and throw in a lifetime supply of gas......
