  • The downside of being tall for one's age.

Brianna, still only 4 years old, is flirting with 42", the maximum
height permitted for children playing in the Ridgmar mall play area.

I hope it falls to someone else's lot to be with her when she finally
doesn't fit under the bar, and is refused admittance.

It wasn't today, though!  Close, but still a little room between the top of her head and the end of happy hours at the mall:

Tell you what, when it comes to never meeting a stranger, I give you
Brianna.  That child waves at everyone, greets them, is bold about
approaching other children with the outstretched hand of friendship,
    never fearing a rebuff.

I'm crowding 54.  When will *I* be like that?

  • Height's a dumb way to "measure" such a thing! Weight, if you must, age, definitely, but height? Come on! Kids are taller and taller these days. Ethan would have been denied admittance at three, I think!

    Sheesh.

She is an adorable little girl, Anne. In love with that camera, too. Another friend!

    :)

  • I think it should be age and I think it should be enforced. At our mall, the big kids are BIG and they run and jump all over the place. A little toot like Margaret can get knocked down hard. If no one over four was in there, even if they knocked her down, it might not be as damaging. I forgot about the play area at the mall in Fort Worth! We should add that to our list! (Not that Charles would think a mall play area made FW less Funky.)

  • I agree with Elaine, and have had that thought since my older kids were little. Colin was very tall for his age (now at 17 he is 6'4") and was always disappointed when he couldn't play on a play area due to height, it was miserable trying to explain to him why. I think that part of play areas should be for toddlers and some for kids say...age 5 to 7 or 8, Bennett just turned 7 and still loves to play on the play areas and as a rule polices the kids that run amok knocking the little ones down.

And it was lovely finally getting to meet your sister, she is absolutely lovely and those girls are just darling. She is the third person I've met from online groups I've belonged to (and the one I've kept in touch with online for the longest).

Anne, your poppet Brianna is just darling, and she sounds like my Katherine, who will be (sob) 4 on May 29. Katherine tells me that every little girl she sees is her "girlfriend" everyone is her friend and my mother in law walks with a walker, so Katherine has taken to calling all little old ladies with walkers her "gran". Kids are so funny!!

  • We only go to Ridgmar during the school year. When I have Jer with me (he is about 43 inches. at 6. yup brianna is tall!!!) we go to Hulen or Parks in Arlington because they don't check the height. I can understand a child who is tall & not careful of younger children or too old but my child is still within an age where he can play in there & with two younger brothers he is really good at watching out for little ones.

  • Don suggested that, in fact...seeing whether or not Hulen's play area has an enforced height code. Glad to hear that (so far) it doesn't!

  • Hi there!  My oldest daughter was like that when she was little - never met a stranger.  She just turned 26
