You can't say I never take you anywhere.
Here's the music school at Little Creek Naval Base in Virginia Beach, VA:
On the wall inside is a plaque with the 3.00 Club, i.e. those who made
a 3.00+ on either their performance (Alex scored a 3.15), or the
accumulated score (his was 3.33) . . . he wasn't sure which.
Doesn't matter - he'd qualify regardless. The hall with class and practice rooms. Isn't this exciting?
Alex showing Hannah off to a fellow musician, who had asked if he was
the first Negro she'd met. There was some talk about nurses at
the hospital, but Gran (that's me) decreed they don't count . . . only
people outside the hospital count for that sort of thing.

I love these photo trips, I am never tired after them!!
Is it just me, or is that an odd question to ask (about being the first Negro she'd met)? Either way, I agree with Gran people outside the hospital are the ones to be counted as firsts.
Now, I didn't hear it...he'd already seen Hannah, but Alex brought it up and kidded him about it. Apparently this was a joke between them.
That makes sense then. I first read that I thought "What an odd question"....sounds like an inside joke now.
Have you been to that part of Virginia before? What did you think of it? You know, you were only 15 minutes or so from where we used to live in Hampton - we could walk down to the water from our house and see the Navy base across it. My amazing husband and son knew all the different aircraft carriers from that distance. They all look the same to me, but apparantly they each have a different profile. Their favorite one was the Enterprise, on which my father in law served.
Many, many years ago for me, though Don visited Norfolk a few years ago, when he worked for Caver-Morehead. We love that area.
