  • Dmitry amuses me quite a lot, as his vocabulary expands.  Often I'm taken by surprise at the words he's picked up.

This afternoon I took him to buy a new pair of shoes, as he's growing
like a weed and the ones he has been wearing are too small.  We
went to Mervyn's where he found a pair of Reeboks he liked, but he
balked at the price . . . they were on sale for $39.99.  I pointed
out how the sole is sewn on, so they should last for quite a while, and
after trying them on, he decided they would be fine.

When we got in the car to leave for home, he cleared his throat and remarked, "Isn't there something you want to say to me?"

"Huh?  What?" I asked in some confusion.

His face was the picture of pleased complacency as he replied that he
would have these shoes for a long time.  "I am economic!" he
    announced smugly.

He's accustomed to my muttering that he's an expensive Russian rascal,
you see, and was anxious to highlight an area where he is economical
(he has a bit of difficulty with suffixes).

Solemnly I agreed he is quite economical.

"But not in video games," he smirked.  "I'm not economic at all about video games."

    No argument here!

  • I do hope I get to meet Dmitry some day. I love boys his age and he sounds like a true charmer in his way!

Have you told him that Jason bought the PSP? He LOVES it. Expensive bit of not very much if you ask me, but he enjoys it. The display is phenomenol - even I can see that. It came with a disc of Spiderman 2 and seeing that convinced me (a non-gamer, much to Ethan's disgust) that playing games on it must be great.

Hugs, Dmitry, from this long distance and not-yet-met Aunt Cin.

  • No, I haven't told him yet. He'd be desperate to somehow make his way to Jason's house, as he has yet to see one in action.

  • We're open, Anne. Hazel lives just down the hill with a guest suite and a pool that'll be open in about 6 weeks or so...

    Anytime!

    :)

  • How is his spoken English doing, generally? Is he now able to carry on a conversation comfortably with kids his age, with only the occasionally stumbling over words? Does he understand and easily say most things other than "big words?"

  • Or the occasionally typing "ly" where it doesn't belong...
