  • Well, that was fun!  Quite like old times, in fact, only better because Zhenya was with us.  Dmitry's out of school this week for Spring Break, so yesterday we met the Waybourns (minus Reagan who was in school and Joe who was in Wichita Falls with his father) for lunch at the Russian restaurant, then today we picked Dan and Zhenya up and brought them home with us.  Before we did, though, we stopped by Wal-Mart for a second GameCube controller then Blockbuster to rent a couple of games.

Dmitry getting acquainted with the Waybourn's new puppy, Maggie.

A friend kindly got us tickets to "The Living Sea" at the Omni theatre at the Museum of Science and History.  That was really good . . . can't decide whether I most enjoyed the Coast Guard boats, or the surfing, or the gazillion stingless jellyfish in an enclosed seawater lake in the islands of Pauca.

We should take Dmitry to the coast this summer.  He's never seen the ocean before.

After the show we still had a few minutes so decided to poke around the museum proper, as Zhenya hadn't seen it (to my knowledge).  The big hit was the 1940s/1950s era toy exhibit:

It's as if they reached back in time and emptied our toy box.

Tell you what, those toys are timeless in their appeal:

The original Barbie.  G.I. Joe.  Slinky.  Erector sets.  Tinkertoys.  Duncan yo-yos.  Those bake ovens that use a light bulb.  Those things where you use a magnet to pull metal shavings into beards, hair, etc. on a face.

    The good stuff.

  • Yeah! The REAL G.I. Joe -the one who was as tall as Barbie, as opposed to that wimpy thing Jason collected.

    ;)

    Sounds like a great day.

  • We saw The Living Sea last week. Really enjoyed it, as well. My boys were facinated. I can't wait to see the toy exhibit! We were there the day before it opened so we'll have to check it out next time we go (we have a membership).
