  • For years and years and years I've seen ads for what has to be the most peculiar recipe ever devised....Mock Apple Pie, substituting Ritz Crackers for apples.

Has anyone actually made this?  And eaten it?

  • My sister Clara used to make it all the time. It's good!

With the price of Ritz these days it's more expensive to make than a traditional apple pie, but of course, no peeling and slicing.

  • I suppose it goes back to the days when you had fresh apples in autumn, and that's it. Apparently some folks developed a liking for it.

    Cindy -- that's what a crank peeler/slicer's for.

  • If I do lots of peeling and slicing, I get cranky. Is that what you meant by a crank peeler?

  • Made one?  No.  Eaten one.  Yes.  They are very good in my remember, but it's been years since I've had some.  My grandmother used to make them.

  • A crank peeler? Are you serious?

I've never used one. I wield a pretty mean paring knife. (Don't even use a vegetable peeler)

Robin has a crank peeler and she loves it. But she has kids who like to crank it.

  • In your remember? Do you mean "rememberer"? Or "memory"?

    Silly Brad.

  • I've made mock apple pie with soda crackers. It was good.

Moosie, an apple peeler/slicer/corer is an amazing thing. And it makes me happy, not cranky. ; )

  • Oh I know what they are. Just never seen one up close and personal. But I remember seeing ads for them in Yankee magazine.

  • You know Cindy, using a crank peeler might save you a spoon here and there.
