Dmitry can be an extraordinarily satisfying person for whom to cook. Yesterday evening I handed him his plate, which led to him bouncing up and down where he sat, exclaiming, "Is this my yummy, delicious dinner? What yummy, delicious food is it?"
Then he went into ecstacies: "Oh! It's my SO DELICIOUS FOOD! Come here, delicious food!"
Which is always nice to hear, especially when you're handing over a turkey burger and what Dmitry calls 'red salad' ("My favorite Russian food!"), consisting of diced potatoes, beets, carrots, dill relish, and equal amounts of mayonnaise and Miracle Whip.

Aw, that's so sweet! Gotta love a kid who appreciates good food! That sounds like a great salad, too. Recipe?
Mayonaise and cool whip??? I'd have to taste it prior to making or judging it!! The rest sounds good. I'll bet you didn't get that recipe from Russia!!!!!!
oh how sweet
Dang! I meant MIRACLE WHIP!
Oy vey.
Y'know, when I wrote it I thought it sounded a bit strange.
And Mom, except that I use dill relish instead of chopped dill pickles, and canned beets and potatoes (the Diced New Potatoes by Del Monte aren't half bad), it's pretty much straight from one of my Russian cookbooks. It calls for a bit of sugar, but I figure the Miracle Whip works for that.
Oh, and Eleanor, I just use a regular can of potatoes and beets (I chop the beets with my Pampered Chef chopper), steam a small snack package of carrots (chop ditto), add maybe 1/8 C. of dill relish, and obviously if you have dill pickles it's true to the original recipe to dice those instead, then just add dressing as you like it.
It's quite simple and, if I may be so bold, darn tasty. Don won't eat it (he isn't big on beets), but I'm very fond of it myself.
Mayonaise and Miracle whip ???
Yup. Mayonnaise and Miracle Whip.
Combined.
I'm a Wild Woman, it cannot be denied. :-p
