  • As has been mentioned here before, Kinky Friedman is running for governor of Texas.  An ex-submariner, whose blog I read, noticed this photo from Friedman’s website:

See the lower medal…..the wide, skinny one?  That’s what Charles is hoping to qualify to wear during this tour on the Dallas, i.e. dolphins.  Right now all he can do is clean and stand watch, as he’s not sub-qualified yet.

So far’s anyone can tell, Friedman’s never served on a submarine, so couldn’t have earned those dolphins.

The ex-bubblehead blogger is trying to decide whether to be upset or not; should sporting a medal one hasn’t earned be taken as a compliment, or taken right off his jacket?

Personally, I think it’s inappropriate for someone to wear a medal to which they are not entitled, but maybe I’m just being a crab.

  • I’m with you, Anne.   Medals should be earned.  Only  the people who earn them should wear them.

  • Agreed!

Conrad earned his dolphins while a midshipman in college on the Dan’l Boone.  When he decided to go the enlisted route instead, he wore them on his uniform in bootcamp.  He got a lot of questions about those…quite an oddity.

  • It is misleading and dishonest to wear a medal that you’ve not earned.

  • Absolutely wrong to wear something you haven’t earned.  It discredits the men who actually worked to achieve those medals.  It is cheating and should be punished! Now whos being crabby!

  • Did you go on his blog to ask him?  He may have earned then.  If he did not contact you local paper.  There is nothing good ole boys hate more than a lying patriot and they should hate it.

  • That’s a good notion…there must be some sort of contact info on his campaign site.
