  • Who remembers that song from ages ago about “if you love pina coladas, etc.”?

The song’s official name is “Escape”, though it tended to be known as the “pina colada song.” Anyway, the point is that it concerned a couple who each answered a personal ad in the newspaper, only to show up at the appointment to find the other waiting:

So I waited with high hopes, then she walked in the place.
I knew her smile in an instant, I knew the curve of her face.
It was my own lovely lady, and she said, “Oh, it’s you.”
And we laughed for a moment, and I said, “I never knew”..

“That you liked Pina Coladas, and getting caught in the rain.
And the feel of the ocean, and the taste of champagne.
If you like making love at midnight, in the dunes of the cape.
You’re the love that I’ve looked for, come with me, and escape.”

Yes, well, believe it or not that basically happened to a couple, but it didn’t have quite that happy ending; from Sydney’s Daily Telegraph:

A married couple who didn’t realise they were chatting each other up on the internet are divorcing.

Sana Klaric and husband Adnan, who used the names “Sweetie” and “Prince
of Joy” in an online chatroom, spent hours telling each other about
    their marriage troubles, Metro.co.uk reported.

    The
truth emerged when the two turned up for a date. Now the pair, from
Zenica in central Bosnia, are divorcing after accusing each other of
    being unfaithful.

“I was suddenly in love. It was amazing. We
seemed to be stuck in the same kind of miserable marriage. How right
that turned out to be,” Sana, 27, said.

    Adnan, 32, said: “I
still find it hard to believe that Sweetie, who wrote such wonderful
things, is actually the same woman I married and who has not said a
nice word to me for years”.

Truth be told, I always figured the latter story was the most realistic ending.

  • you would think, that they would realize that if they found each other like that (vs. someone else) that is a good reason to MAKE IT WORK !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • You had to, you just had to, didn’t you?

Everybody’s blogging about this, and everyone has to mention that stupid song while doing it. All over the Internet, people all over the world are engaged in a mass conspiracy to give the rest of us THE world’s MOST ANNOYING earworm! >

  • Oh. Sorry. I got it from Tim Challies, who did not mention the annoying song.

Clearly he’s far ahead of me in sanctification. >;^>

  • Now Pentamom, put Beethoven’s 7th on the stereo, or cd player or tape deck or something, and just relax . . . .

It certainly is true though, what justagirl said.  Very sad, that they can’t see that they had just crusted over, in their relationship, and that all the ingredients for falling in love all over again were there.  Wish someone would TELL them!
