  • Which curtains do you think?

They both have their points...the ones with the painted pattern cost a good deal less, plus would let me see out the windows.

The Quaker Lace Wisteria balloon shade and valance are pricier, but oh so elegant!

Here's that photo again of the corner with the windows:

I'm giving thought to having a crack at painting the cabinets white, BTW.  Perhaps if I did the lace curtains would be too much white?

  • I think I'd leave the cabinets the way they are (too much trouble painting them! :wink-wink:) and hang a white battenberg lace valance.  I'm awfully fond of white battenberg lace.

  • I'd love the white cabinets, but then, that's what mine are. And only you can decide if it's worth the effort.

As for the curtains, I like the patterned ones. Price is always on my mind but so is ease of cleaning. I'd hate to have to get kitchen gunk out of those beautiful lacey ones. And would you have to put an old style starch on those things after washing? Not me, baby - not even when I was well.

  • I like the printed ones! I think having the wisteria curtains hanging there will be a nice balance to the accent wall on the other side.

  • With the windows close like that, a less busy curtain is best, IMO. So, I'd go with the embroidered one, rather than the lace for that window arrangement.

If it was a window by itself in a wall, I like lace curtains a lot, but it may seem too busy on two windows in such close proximity...mightn't it?

  • Unfortunately there's only one pair of the painted ones available right now. I'd sent a message to the eBay seller, asking about it.

Do y'all think I could just buy some white curtains at Target or Walmart and stencil them with fabric paint?

  • Send 'em to me, Anne, I'll do it for you.

  • Just buy one pair of the painted curtains, and put one on either window, coming together at the top. i think 2 sets would be too much, and it would cut out some of the nice sunlight coming in. At least try it with just one and see if you like it.

NO DON"T PAINT THE CABINETS!!! I love the natural wood look. It looks so much nicer than white cabinets.

  • By the way...my mom is great at decorating ideas.

  • I do have to warn you about painted cabinets - while I love the airy, spacious look of white cabinets, painted cabinets chip horribly. We painted ours 3 or 4 years ago and they look pretty bad now. Granted, they really take abuse because I cook a lot, but now I face the nightmare of maintenance.

Just a warning. Maybe you could paint the walls or trim white instead? I like the idea of white curtains. And if Eleanor will stencil them for you...WOW. What an offer!

  • sorry - I don't know how I posted that twice. And am I ever stupid. You just painted the walls, and the color is gorgeous, not to mention the fact that your trim is white. Obviously SOMEBODY hasn't been paying attention. Well then. I guess you are one giant step ahead of me!

    No surprise there. :)

  • No kidding, J'fer! Eleanor! Will you really? :celebrate:

For those not in the know, Eleanor is an extremely gifted artist, so the idea of her handpainting curtains for me is...stunning. Wow. :what:

Thank you, Eleanor. I'll gladly take you up on that kind offer (and will send the paint along with the curtains, as I don't want you to be out of pocket at all).

Now, if I can prevail upon Cindy to fashion a wisteria-draped three-switch switch plate, I'll be in clover! (Or wisteria, as it were.)
