You know, it’s awfully kind of various stores and Christ Chapel to give us mothers a single, long-stem carnation, but I’ve never figured out what the heck we’re supposed to do with them. My vases are too large for one flower, so the poor things just sit on the kitchen counter until they shrivel up and die, which always makes me feel guilty.
Can’t bring myself to toss a perfectly good flower straight into the trash, though.
BTW, Happy Mother’s Day to all my fellows!
I use Incredimail for my charter.com email, and though I bought the premium version a couple of years ago, something’s funky with it, for I’m missing some capabilities. The capability I cannot access right now is the “signature” option, seeing as how when I click on “Tools”, which ought to show a list of options including “Signature”, there is no such option provided:

It’s hard to see, I daresay, but trust me…there is no “Signature” option there. I downloaded the most current version of Incredimail but it made no difference.
So yesterday I contacted “VIP support”, what with my having paid for the premium version, explaining the problem. This morning I received an email directing me to the page at their Help area dealing with signatures, advising me to click on “Tools”, then on the “Signature” option.
First, I’d been to that page already, for crying out loud! What, they don’t think I tried the “Help” section before contacting them? Second, I DON’T HAVE A “SIGNATURE” OPTION! That. Is. What. I. Was. Contacting. Them. About.
Sent a reply entitled “You didn’t actually read what I wrote, did you, Tal?” and included the above photo.
You know, they’d save time in the long run if they’d take the time to pay attention to what we actually write.

Anne — you get a scissors, and you cut it to the right length for the vase.
That is a nice custom.
Then it looks really dopey, a big vase with one carnation in it.
Maybe I need to get one of those tallish, skinny vases? Only I don’t know where it’d live the rest of the year.
BTW, did you know there is a reason it’s always carnations? According to Dr. Kitchens, it’s not just because they’re cheap.
No, it was the flower given out (with vase, BTW) at the first Mother’s Day celebration in Grafton, I forget which state.
We get red roses, which look lovely on their own
Although, I forgot mine at moms house so it is with hers (& the bouquet of roses that she recieved as a gift, luckyyyy).
You know, part of the problem is that I read it backwards — I thought you were saying the flowers were too tall for your vase.
But sure — either get a tall bud vase, or just cut it down and stick it in a nice tall drinking glass. Maybe a flower in a drinking glass is too tacky for your southern soul, but it’s less tacky than letting a lovely flower die.
My vase is WIDE as well as tall, intended for a bouquet of flowers, not a single stem. There’s no way to make one or two stems, no matter how short one cuts them, look anything but dumb, dumped in that vase.
Right, I got that when I realized you meant the vase was too big, not the flower was too big (which was entirely my own stupidity; you were quite clear.)
If you ever find a way to get tech people to actually READ your question, please let me know how you did it. I strive to make my questions as simple as possible but they seldom answer the question I’ve asked. Aaaauuuuggggghhhhh!
Haven’t heard diddly-squat from them since I sent that. Most irritating!
