  • On an only partially related note, that guy commenting on Dr. Moore's blog criticizing Russian adoption seems to be making a really strange argument: that because children in some other countries are suffering "more" than children in Russian, we're morally obligated to just let the Russian children languish and go rescue the other children.

As though the Russian kids aren't suffering quite enough to deserve being rescued, or what is his point? As though whenever someone chooses to do something for the benefit of another person, he is morally suspect if he doesn't go looking for the most deprived person to help, rather than simply finding someone who needs help, or addressing the situation that presents itself most readily to him?

    Strange way of thinking.

  • Mercy Maud, that guy is a serious jerk. Incredible.

I'm just sorry the comments were closed, for I was ready to weigh in. >:^<

If absolutely nothing else, one could point out to him that considering his "the only valid adoption is an adoption from the worst situation" thesis, there's no excuse whatsoever for any American child ever being adopted, is there?

  • Not to mention, not all countries permit older child adoption. China doesn't, for instance. There'd be no way for us to have gotten a teenage boy from China.
